Scott
Health and Safety Installs Flow Systems
Moving
into a new manufacturing and distribution facility recently, Scott
Health & Safety of Monroe, NC took the opportunity to change their
order fulfillment process. They
chose Engineered Handling to design and install pallet and carton
flow, order picking and storage systems. Engineered
Handling designed two distinct systems to meet Scott’s current and
future needs. The first
was Unarco’s T-Bolt Selective Pallet Rack with Unarco’s
“RhinoTrac” Carton Flow underneath.
The
selective pallet rack provided storage for Scott’s inventory of bulk
items. The carton flow
lanes below gave order pickers the flexibility of picking single
components by hand. The
layout maximized space by using very narrow aisles and Scott purchased
a VNA Lift Truck to stock and pick the system. The
second system installed was a Pallet Flow design also provided by
Unarco. This system was
custom designed by Engineered Handling and Unarco for bulk storage of
Scott’s cylinders used for breathing apparatus for firemen. Our
installation crews installed the system quickly and with minimal
interruption to their operations. Scott Health & Safety was very
pleased with the final results.

Industrial
Production on the Rise!
The
Federal Reserve Bureau reports that industrial production across all
sectors, except printing and publishing, recovered last quarter.
Manufacturing new orders have been positive every month in the
new quarter. The
Fed left interest rates unchanged in their May meeting, saying that
“Risks to the economy remain balanced between weakness and
inflation.” Clearly the
contraction in manufacturing output over the last year and a half,
which was exacerbated by the events of September 11, seems to have
bottomed out. This
is good news because while consumer spending, which accounts for two
thirds of the US gross domestic product, and housing starts remained
level during the recent tough times, manufacturing, especially
production of durable goods, brought the economy down.
